Introduction to Adult Social Care – Delivery and Legislative Frameworks

Member Development Session 1

This virtual event is the first of three online member development sessions brought to you by the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services (ADASS) East and Local Government East.

Who should attend: Council Leaders, Adult Services Portfolio Holders, Health and ASC Scrutiny Committee Chairs, Health and Wellbeing Board Chairs.

Adult social care is one of the most significant responsibilities of local government, with important implications for residents’ wellbeing, independence, and access to support. This session will provide an overview of Adult Social Care and how it is locally delivered, as well as an introduction to relevant legislative frameworks, and the role of councillors in understanding and scrutinising these statutory duties. The session will cover:

• The key principles and statutory duties of the Care Act 2014 and other legislation
• Responsibilities relating to assessment, eligibility, and care planning
• The interface between health and social care responsibilities
• The role of elected members in leadership and oversight

The session will include opportunities for questions and discussion, enabling members to explore the practical implications of legislation within their local context.
