The Disability Resource Centre

The DRC is a charity led by people with lived experience of disability at the centre of its decision making. Our vision is to empower people of any age with poor physical or mental health, to fulfil their full potential and aspirations. We provide professional, emotional, and practical support and solutions. This is designed to meet the needs of our service users through personalised support, information and advice, mobility equipment, training, and mental and physical wellbeing support.

As an Anchor institution, one of our key aims is to help tackle health inequalities. We provide opportunities for people to access early intervention and prevention support, aiming to reduce the risk of further health concerns. As a leader of the Disability Confident scheme, we are aiming to be pioneers in encouraging employers to take advantage of the amazing skill and hard work that is available from the disabled workforce.

Professional Experience, Highlights and Distinctions:

  • Our support services include advice, equipment retail and hire, benefits advice, carers support (Carers Central), training, wellbeing, and health and fitness.
  • The direct payments team deliver support planning, information and advice, recruitment services, and payroll and managed account services.
  • Working with local and national organisations, we are spreading the word to promote more people with disabilities join the workforce. Through a 6-step approach, we guide employers through their Disability Confident journey and helping them become more accessible, whilst increasing their awareness. This increases the levels of equality, diversity and inclusion in the workplace, creating a more comfortable and inviting environment for everyone.
  • We have a panel of 100 volunteers called ‘Experts by Experience’. They are a group of people who have agreed to share their experiences, to help shape our own and local services through feedback, consultation, co-production and peer-led groups. This group of people is very important to the way we shape our services for employers.
