Rethink Inclusion - Emma Lord

Emma Lord is the Founder and Lead Consultant at Rethink Inclusion. The aim of Rethink Inclusion is to upskill and equip employers, organisations and professionals with the knowledge and tools needed to support and accommodate Neurodivergent employees and jobseekers.

An estimated 15-20% of the population are thought to exhibit some form of neurodivergence, and yet the rate of disclosure in the workplace is low as many employees fear discrimination. Unfortunately, there are still many barriers to accessing and maintaining successful employment. The Office for National Statistics reported that 64% of employers understanding little or nothing about Neurodivergent conditions.

Emma delivers training and consultancy services pertaining to Neurodiversity in the workplace. One of the key focus areas is ‘ADHD in the Workplace’ training. This comprehensive training covers the following topics:

  • An overview of Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, including the 3 subtypes of ADHD and associated characteristics.
  • Recognising and challenging common misconceptions, and understanding the role of stigma and its impact on accessing and maintaining successful employment.
  • Understanding what the referral and diagnostic process should look like according to NICE guidelines.
  • Exploring practical strategies and reasonable adjustments to address potential workplace challenges and to support people with ADHD to thrive at work.
  • Promoting genuine inclusion and appreciation of different styles of working and learning, for the benefit of the whole team.

Professional Experience, Highlights and Distinctions:

  • Qualified in Careers Advice and Guidance – Level 6.
  • Extensive career within supported employment, working with local government, education providers, NHS trusts, employment agencies and large employers to retain and maintain diverse talent.
  • Expertise in implementing and quality assuring Supported Internship programmes in the UK, with a reputation for delivering high rates of meaningful and full-time paid employment outcomes for adults with a variety of learning disabilities and neurodevelopmental conditions.
  • Delivered ‘ADHD in the Workplace’ training to a range of employers, healthcare providers, supported employment agencies, educators and other professionals.
  • Experienced Employability Tutor and Job Coach.
  • Worked with businesses in a consultancy capacity to implement and re-design recruitment practices to improve accessibility.
  • Thorough understanding of Access to Work, the Gatsby Benchmarks and SEND practices.
  • Member of CDI (Career Development Institute) professional body.
