Fatimah Mohamied is a Midwife, Muslim and Mother who is an alloy of British, Egyptian and Bengali constituents. For the past 10 years she has been on a Journey to better understand her position in the world as a British woman of colour, and has come from that journey understanding the importance of acknowledging how we all harm one another, especially when we remain unaware of the power we each have.
Fatimah Mohamied has extensive experience providing Cultural Competency training for healthcare staff, especially in maternity where tragic racial inequalities have been evidenced. The training encompasses a discourse on unconscious bias, allyship and the social interplay between Race, poverty and politics.
Fatimah’s training aims to inspire thought by encouraging the audience to feel safe to share perspectives, thoughts and the courage to be vulnerable enough to possibly get it wrong and not feel vilified for doing so. Her training aims not to revolutionise individuals’ beliefs, principles or politics, but to inspire a change in hearts and minds in the everyday decisions they make and preconceptions they have about people who are different to them, by making them aware of the power they have to inspire change themselves.
Moreover, the training’s main ethos is to influence the kernel of understanding we each have, to grow into the seedling needed for ongoing personal growth, to help attendees inspire others to inspire others.
