Marketplace Profile On: Concertus Design and Property Consultants

Published on 8 July 2020

Concertus Design and Property Consultants Ltd were asked to deliver three affordable units following the Brentwood Borough Council Housing Team obtaining planning approval as part of their small sites programme.

The brief to Concertus from Brentwood Borough Council (BBC) was to develop and deliver modern, affordable housing units.  Concertus have provided mutli-disciplinary design services to support the development of technical design information; tender and contract documentation; cost consultancy and cost monitoring advice and project management. Concertus have successfully provided these services in collaboration with Brentwood Borough Council’s Project Manager, developing a team approach utilising the skills of all parties to support the stages of the project

As part of the proposal, the project teams reviewed the wider community requirements, including the provision of additional dedicated car parking areas for the community to support the requirement to improve the provision of green spaces and reducing the impact on the local highways.

The proposal is for three units, (two of the units DDA compliant) to be built on a redundant site of unused garages.  The proposal has been received positively by the community and the local residents. The design is modern, adopting a fabric first approach in addition to each unit having PV (photo-voltaic) solar panels installed and electric car charging points to ensure that the scheme contributes to environmental improvements.  Overall, the team at BBC needed to ensure the dwellings were stylish and functional, with the main focus on the end users’ requirements.

Our success in winning this exciting project can be attributed to how we approached the overall process, and by promoting our teamwork ethic, not just in-house but with all partners and stakeholders. We understood from the outset that the client passionately cared about this development due to the impact it would have on the local community.
