Local Government East presents the next session in its Lunch & Learn series, designed to help council leaders, managers, and officers navigate challenging conversations with confidence and skill.

This session is aimed at councillors, team leaders, managers, and officers who want practical tools to handle difficult situations effectively, maintain strong working relationships, and achieve constructive outcomes. Each session delivers clear, actionable guidance that can be applied immediately within your council.


Session Overview

Having a Word: How to Navigate Three Types of Challenging Conversations Without It All Kicking Off

This practical session will explore:

  • Constructive feedback conversations – providing guidance without causing defensiveness

  • Conflict resolution conversations – managing disagreements and preventing escalation

  • Motivation and performance conversations – addressing underperformance or disengagement with confidence

Delivered by Andrew Pain, a specialist in communication, leadership, and workplace effectiveness, the session provides step-by-step approaches to handle challenging discussions professionally and productively.

  • Team leaders, managers, and officers responsible for staff supervision
