Local Government East presents the next session in its Lunch & Learn series, designed specifically for senior leaders navigating skills gaps, leadership pressure, and fragile talent pipelines.

This session is aimed at CEOs and HR leaders who want to strengthen leadership capability in a focused, sustainable way. Each session delivers a clear outcome that can be applied immediately within your organisation.

Session Overview

This session explores how councils can build leadership capability that lasts — rather than rebuilding it year after year.

Session 1: The Talent Squeeze

How to build capability when critical skills are missing
A focused session to help organisations identify the leadership capabilities that matter most, prioritise development effort and stop spreading investment too thin.

Outcome: A shared view of what leadership capability needs building first.

Why this series works

  • Practical and focused — not theoretical

  • Links leadership capability, motivation, and wellbeing

  • Designed for complex, high-pressure local government environments

  • Creates clarity leaders can act on immediately

Who should attend

This series is designed for senior leaders responsible for organisational capability, talent, and performance, including:

  • Chief Executives

  • HR Directors, Heads of HR and Workforce Development Leads

  • Directors and C-suite leaders with responsibility for workforce strategy, leadership development, and succession planning

  • Assistant Directors and Senior Managers leading large service areas or organisational change

  • Organisational Development, Learning and Development, and Transformation Leads

  • Leaders responsible for talent pipelines, performance, culture, and long-term capability planning

This session is particularly relevant for councils experiencing skills shortages, leadership pressure, fragile succession pipelines, or challenges in building sustainable leadership capability across the organisation.
