A valid UK driving licence is essential for many refugee and international workers in the UK, especially in the East of England with its remote and rural landscape as well as intermittent public transport. This can make doing some jobs very difficult including in the social care sector, which often involves travelling to people’s homes or various places.

There is a shortage of skilled social care workers in the East of England so EELGA are pleased to offer this two-part webinar to help you practise for your driving theory test so that you can advance your career.

This interactive webinar will take place over two half-days. Attendance at both days is essential. The course will cover practical advice on tackling the driving theory test, study skills, vocabulary and some driving theory. The trainers are experts in training for driving theory and English skills.

Spaces are limited and will be filled on a first-come first-served basis. After registration you will receive an enrolment form. People living in the east of England working in or with a demonstrable interest in entering the social care sector will be prioritised.

For more information please contact Peter at the Strategic Migration Partnership: peter.broomfield@eelga.gov.uk

Background

Most non-EU citizens must exchange their driving licence for a UK one after 12 months living in the UK and therefore pass the driving theory and practical tests. The driving theory test is often challenging because many candidates are not aware of the structure of the exam or the specialist vocabulary related to driving in the UK. It is only possible to do the exam in English.

This project is in collaboration with International Recruitment East, which is a larger project in the East of England to tackle staff shortages in adult social care by supporting qualified refugees and international recruits to overcome obstacles to undertaking and finding work:
