The East of England Local Government Association in collaboration with Immigration Social Work Services Ltd are pleased to offer Human Rights Assessments and Working with Young People Who Are Appeals Rights Exhausted training for social workers, personal advisers, team managers and legal teams in the East of England.
Introduction:
The conflict in Immigration and Social Care legislation can be complicated to navigate.
This training course supports you to legally discharge your responsibilities, taking you through the asylum process to final decisions on asylum claims. This unique approach supports practitioners to carry out their practice in a way that promotes the safety of young people who become Appeals Rights Exhausted, by developing robust contingency plans.
Course Structure:
The course is an online interactive event with a mixture of presentations, videos, quizzes and activities. The course is CPD certified and, once completed, delegates will receive a certificate of attendance which can be uploaded onto Social Work England as part of their ongoing learning record.
Learning Objectives:
This half day training course will teach you to:
- Understand the timeline of an Asylum Claim for UASC and how this can lead to the Human Rights Assessment
- Determine when Local Authorities will need to undertake a Human Rights Assessment
- Demonstrate your understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the Local Authority towards former relevant UASC who are Appeals Rights Exhausted (ARE), using up to date case law and legislation
- Develop best practice when working with those who are / or are at risk of becoming ARE
- Feel confident in your work with young people, putting safety plans in place to reduce the risk of exploitation and destitution
- Develop your understanding of the voluntary return scheme
Facilitator: Jo Schofield
Jo is a qualified and registered social worker with an established career specialising in supporting Local Authorities and Central Government around the subject of separated migrant children, child trafficking and modern day slavery.
She has a proven track record in supporting and improving the social work practice of Local Authorities in Scotland, Wales and England, mapping services, critically analysing practice models and providing solutions to meet the needs of both the Local Authorities and the young people they are supporting.
Since January 2020 Jo has been practicing as an independent trainer and consultant, delivering training on age assessment, human rights assessment and triple planning to Local Authorities, Regional Government Administrations and independent social workers. She also takes regular instructions acting as an expert witness in litigation cases.
