EELGA Roundtable Discussion: Healthy Homes in the East of England

  • Virtual Event – Microsoft Teams
  • 16th September 2024, 10:00 - 11:30
  • Entry Fees: Free

The East of England LGA is running a series of free roundtable discussions in 2024 and 2025. These sessions are open to all councils in the East of England and their partner organisations. At the EELGA roundtable, you will hear from a guest speaker on each theme and have an opportunity to learn from, and share your own examples of, best practice, opportunities, and challenges.

Recognising the important links between housing and health, this roundtable will draw on two previous roundtables where we discussed the impact of housing on health inequalities, and children’s health. At this roundtable, we will engage with councils, health and VCSE partners on the development on our Healthy Homes in the East of England report, being produced in partnership with IMPOWER consultancy and NHS East. IMPOWER is generously leading the health and housing research for this project and report on a pro bono basis.

Local councils help people access decent, secure and affordable homes through a range of services. Integrated Care Systems (ICSs), of which local councils are a key partner, face the challenge of making a fundamental shift towards preventing people from getting ill. Through their structures, shared knowledge and relationships, the six ICSs in the East of England have the potential to actively address housing problems that are causing and worsening ill health in the region.

This roundtable will explore:

  • Data and strategies to approaching the links between housing and health.
  • Good practice examples of system partnerships addressing the challenge of providing healthy homes.
  • Recommendations on how to scale up good practice examples to achieve a system wide approach on better housing for better heath.

Who should attend: Local councillors and officers, registered housing providers, the health and voluntary and community sectors.

Please note: if this session is oversubscribed places will be limited to 2 – 3 people per authority.

If you have any queries please contact Matthew Stewart, Policy and Programmes Manager, East of England LGA, email; matt.stewart@eelga.gov.uk
