East of England Local Government Association, in collaboration with Immigration Social Work Services Ltd are pleased to offer Brief Enquiry Training for social workers, team managers, IROs and legal teams in the Eastern region.

Introduction:

This training will upskill practitioners who are/will be undertaking/overseeing Brief Enquiries as part of their role. This is a live event delivered using presentations, videos, quizzes and external resources that will support delegates in their day-to-day work. Delegates will be invited to participate in group discussions and activities and feed this back to the wider group.

Course Content:

The course focusses on equipping social workers with the case law, guidance and best practice principles when responding to spontaneous arrivals. Throughout the course we will examine the different pathways of spontaneous arrival referrals, explore the most recent case law judgments and why Local Authorities should consider developing a specific policy to manage these referrals.

Course Structure:

The course is an online interactive event with a mixture of presentations, videos, quizzes and activities with opportunities to ask questions throughout.  This is CPD certified course and once completed, delegates will receive a certificate of attendance, which can be uploaded onto Social Work England as part of their ongoing learning record.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of the course, learners will:

  • Understand the different referral pathways for spontaneous arrivals,
  • Be up to date with the most recent case law judgements on this subject,
  • Understand best practice principles in assessing needs and thresholds.

About the facilitator

Jo Schofield is a qualified and registered social worker with an established career specialising in supporting Local Authorities and Central Government around the subject of separated migrant children, child trafficking and modern-day slavery.

She has a proven track record in supporting and improving the social work practice of eleven Local Authorities in the East of England, mapping services, critically analysing practice models and providing solutions to meet the needs of both the Local Authorities and the young people they are supporting.

Since January 2020 Jo has been practicing as an independent trainer and consultant, delivering training on age assessment, human rights assessment and triple planning to Local Authorities, Regional Government Administrations and independent social workers. She is also regularly commissioned to undertake expert witness reports for Judicial Reviews of previously completed age assessments and has been commended for her report writing skills in the Chambers in London.

Following the success of the CPD Certified training course in Age Assessment, Jo wrote and published the Level 4 Qualification in Age Assessment, which sits on the government’s Regulated Qualifications Framework.
