Richard is a town and transport planner with 20 years’ experience across the public, private and community sectors. He specialises in preparing strong policy and strategy narratives and masterplanning that support active travel. He founded ActivePlanning in 2018, a business that brings together his skills and experience together to enable clients to deliver more walking and cycling in new development and on existing networks. The business is built on a strong belief in the untapped potential of active travel to transform our cities and countryside, public health and quality of life by reducing car dependency. To support its work, ActivePlanning has access to a wide range of highly talented partners, including landscape architects, engineers, urban designers, smarter travel specialists and architects. ActivePlanning’s experience and services include: brainstorming and preparation of strategic spatial visions and policy (including Transport East’s Infrastructure Development Plan), masterplanning, stakeholder engagement, Local Design Codes, Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plans, active travel strategies. Richard is on the Harlow and Gilston Garden Town Design Review Panel and provides review services for Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plans and infrastructure design for the Department for Transport.
