Our Governance
The organisation is governed by the full Assembly of Leaders and elected Mayors of the 50 councils in the region, which meets twice a year, and LGE Management Committee which meets quarterly. We also hold additional informal engagement meetings between the LGE Chair and the region’s Leaders and Mayors in order to engage further on LGE’s work plan and advocacy priorities.
We have five lead members who are responsible for the oversight and regional collaboration on specific issues and for reporting back to the Management Committee. These are supported by a lead chief executive, and a supporting officer within LGE. Each lead member is also supported by a cross-party reference group, to help sense-check policy positions, and ensure that LGE remains a member-led organisation. Furthermore, to help inform the work of these lead members, LGE also holds roundtable discussions on hot topics to help with wider engagement of members, officers and partners.
LGE is also responsible for engagement with the unions regionally on behalf of local government and forms the employers’ side of the Regional Joint Council, which is an integral part of our role as a registered Employers’ Association.
